दिवाली हिंदू धर्म का प्रसिद्ध त्योहार है। यह त्यौहार भारत देश में बड़े धूमधाम से मनाया जाता है। दिवाली का त्यौहार हर वर्ष कार्तिक मास की आमवस्या को मनाया जाता है। प्राचीन मान्यता के अनुसार इस दिन भगवान् श्री  राम जी 14 वर्ष का बनवास पूरा करके अयोध्या वापिस आये थे।  उनके आगमन के ख़ुशी में सभी लोगो ने घी के दीपक जलाकर उनका स्वागत किया था। इसलिए आज भी लोग दिवाली वाले दिन घर पर दीपक जलाते हैं।  बच्चे पटाखे चलाकर अपनी ख़ुशी का इजहार करते हैं।

दीपावली के त्योहार को रोशनी का त्योहार कहा जाता है। लेकिन दिवाली सिर्फ रोशनी का त्योहार नहीं है बल्कि यह लक्ष्मी पूजा से भी जुड़ा है। इस दिन कई लोग धन की देवी की लक्ष्मी पूजा करते हैं क्योंकि ऐसा माना जाता है कि देवी लक्ष्मी नए साल में सभी मानव जाति को धन, समृद्धि और खुशी प्रदान करेंगी।

इस साल पांच दिवसीय उत्सव 10 नवंबर से धनतेरस के साथ शुरू होगा। छोटी दिवाली 11 नवंबर को है, उसके बाद दिवाली 12 नवंबर को मुख्य त्योहार है। 13 नवंबर को गोवर्धन पूजा है और अंत में, त्योहार 14 नवंबर को भाई दूज है।
